Meet the Team

Paul Caunce

CEO

Paul is Jersey born and enjoyed time in the Jersey Sea Cadets Corps from the age of 10. He was always looking for a way to get into the marine industry when he left school and was lucky enough to be offered a tour around South Pier Shipyard (now South Pier Marine) in 1995 and was offered his dream job!

Since then, Paul gathered a broad range of skills all of which have given him his reputation for exceptional customer experience, from the ground up: washing, polishing, fault finding, installations and customer handovers, and eventually gaining valuable ‘sales, and all things related’ experience.

To return to South Pier to oversee the business’s ongoing success, is both a privilege and an honour.

Sue Le Vesconte

COO

Sue is originally from Edinburgh, moving to Jersey when she was 13, and is a rare breed – a true self-starter. Her talents and career range from accounts through to starting new product lines, operational management, HR and ‘herding cats’!

In 2014, Sue decided to turn her hand to the marine industry and hasn’t looked back since. No job is too big or too small for Sue at South Pier Marine, and her warm and knowledgeable presence around the Chandlery is an enormous benefit to anyone needing a hand finding the product they need!

Ed Gladwell

Boat Yard Manager

Ed has spent his professional life working on South Pier. Starting at South Pier Marine in 1985 as an apprentice on a one-month trial contract, Ed initially specialised in carpentry and he worked with some real legends of Jersey’s marine industry.

Ed gradually progressed to various other roles within the boat yard, taking on more responsibilities as he went. By 1998, Ed was appointed yard manager and he continues to run the yard to this day.

Ed’s truly extensive experience in all areas of boating and boat maintenance is something we’re very grateful to be able to draw upon- he has become a South Pier institution in his own right!

Here’s to the next 40 years!

Ben Fosse

Yacht Broker

Passionate about boating but even more passionate about people, Ben prides himself on building lasting relationships with every customer. Whether you’re buying, selling or just dreaming, Ben makes the process smooth, fun, and stress-free—because after all, finding the right boat should feel like an adventure!

Ben started his career as a watersports instructor at St. Brelade’s Bay, before entering the marine industry properly joining Paul and Sue at PC Boat Sales. He has spent the last seven years working alongside some of the best in the industry and has developed a wide range of marine electronics knowledge to go alongside his extensive experience with vessel systems and time ‘on the tools’.

His breadth of knowledge is extremely wide- whether sail, power or anything in between and there’s not much on the water that Ben can’t expertly helm and he can provide outstanding advice to customers on all aspects of choosing, buying and selling a boat.

Nick Wood

Yacht Broker

Nick has been boating since he was three weeks old (with a little help from his parents initially!). He has spent his life on and around the water, and boats have been both a hobby and a career for Nick.

Nick’s first professional experience in the marine world occurred when he went to work for Ed Gladwell- South Pier Marine’s boat yard manager – during his summer holidays. This varied boat yard work gave Nick a tremendous foundation for what has developed into his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things boats!

Eventually, Nick progressed to full ownership of South Pier Marine in partnership with his father Bob. They ran the business for sixteen years, until passing it on to new ownership in 2024. This has allowed Nick to spend a bit more time with his growing family. and to concentrate on the area of the business he most enjoys- boat sales.

In his twenty+ years as a yacht broker, Nick has seen various cycles of the boat market and he has deep firsthand knowledge of all areas of buying, selling and listing boats. He has owned countless boats personally and this experience informs the first rate service he delivers for his clients and his ability to offer expert advice to those thinking of getting into boating, or upgrading.

Euros Williams

Engineer

Originally from North Wales, Euros started boating around 30 years ago, mainly racing quarter-tonners. After obtaining his RYA Yachtmaster qualification, Euros worked on charter yachts in the Caribbean for 8 years as a commercial skipper. Moving to Jersey in 2012 to start a family, Euros joined South Pier Marine as an engineer and he now specialises in electronics and electrical work where his expertise is highly valued by our customers.

Euros is a talented musician and enjoys playing trumpet and cornet in various ensembles including Jersey Premier Brass, Jersey Chamber Orchestra, The Word On The Street and Jersey Bier Stompers (Oompah Band).

Pierre Syvret

Engineer

Pierre is Jersey born and raised, and describes himself as a ‘proud bean’. Whether fishing with his dad off Jersey’s north coast to regularly taking his 15ft (unsinkable!) Bonwitco for weekends in France and the other islands from his early teens, Pierre has been either on, around or in the water since before he could walk.

Pierre had the opportunity to gain some work experience at South Pier Marine and help out during a Jersey Boat Show at the tender age of thirteen. He must have done a good job, as he was then offered a Saturday job working in the chandlery full time during summer holidays. The very next day after finishing his A-Levels, Pierre began full-time employment at South Pier Marine.

Moving to the boat yard from the Chandlery, Pierre spent time shadowing and learning every role in the yard, and he developed an incredibly varied level of knowledge across all areas of engineering, servicing and shipwrighting. Highly skilled, the craftsmanship Pierre displays when working on customers’ boats frequently delights the owners who then get to benefit from his handiwork.

Outside of work, we’re proud of Pierre’s volunteer service as a retained firefighter for Jersey Fire and Rescue Service. He also enjoys motorbikes and cars; “both breaking and fixing!”
