St Helier
This yacht is found in good condition and has been carefully maintained and updated by the current owner. The hull was designed by Axel Mohnhaupt who designed Admiral’s cup yachts and German 12 metres.
Argo Navis has an overall length of 10.25m, a hull length of 9.95m and a LWL of 8.6m. She is the shoal draft wing keel version meaning her draft is just 1.4m, ideal for Channel Island harbours and anchorages. She is rigged with 7/8 fractional rig with double in line spreaders. The mast is well stayed with separate lower, intermediate and cap shrouds. She is sailed with furling 130% genoa and slab reefed battened mainsail. The hull is easily driven and she is capable of speeds in the 7 knot range in the right conditions but 5 to 6 knots can be used for passage planning. She benefits from an extensive sail wardrobe in addition to those mentioned including spinnaker and spinnaker gear, spinnaker pole and whisker pole, light airs genoa, number 3 jib and cruising chute with snuffer.
A new Beta Marine diesel engine and new sail drive unit was installed in 2020 has been and only lightly used, with less than 100 hours on the clock. The sail drive leg is fitted with a 2 bladed folding propeller which has improved sailing passage times considerably. The total cost was £10,000.
The cockpit seating and locker lids have been replaced with new Tek Dek teak in 2023/2024.
With a beam of 3.45m she has good useable volume below decks and was one of the first designs of her time to incorporate a U-shaped dining table that will seat 6 people. There are 3 cabins each sleeping 2 and a further person can sleep in the saloon. Each cabin is serviced by a vanity unit with sink. The solid teak faced plywood joinery has a quality finish which giving a very pleasant and cosy accommodation. The longitudinal gally to starboard is equipped with double sink, 3 burner hob and oven plus a top loading fridge together with plenty locker storage.
Argo Navis is a very versatile yacht, great for vacations with family and friends but she can also be raced around the cans or is ideal for longer passage races. She represents a compelling proposition for a yachtsperson looking for a boat that has robust built quality and capable of looking after six crew in comfort.
